Yeoldon House Hotel.
About Us
Yeoldon House is situated at the end of a private drive ensuring peace and privacy at all times. The gently sloping gardens provide delightful areas to sit and enjoy the scene either in front of the hotel with a pot of tea or a glass of wine or down beside the tinkling waterfall watching the fish gliding through the pond.
On entering the hotel you will be instantly aware of its tranquillity and warmth. The cosy lounge beckons, inviting you to sit and relax with a book or newspaper whilst the historical stained glass windows and fascinating pictures and artefacts demand closer inspection.
The hotel is beautifully maintained with great attention paid to detail.
Considerable refurbishment has taken place in recent years with the owners seeking to create a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere where comfort is a priority and excellent service the norm.
" Having spent 30 years in London, 17 of them as the executive chef of a four star, 300 bedroom hotel, my dream was to own my own country house hotel. I wanted to produce high quality food using local ingredients wherever possible and to be able to offer it to guests in a lovely setting. Jennifer and I searched the country from the Pennines to Penzance and fell in love with Yeoldon House the minute we stepped out of the car. We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable and we want them to return time and time again..."
Brian Steele - Chef Patron FCFA, (CG) ACF
"Whether your visit be for business or pleasure, a short break or a longer holiday, a family celebration or your Wedding Day I can assure you of the warmest of welcomes and attentive service which will make your stay at Yeoldon one which is both enjoyable and memorable"
Jennifer Steele - Proprietor BSC (Honours) Hotel and Catering Administration
Rooms
The house has ten bedrooms (three of these can be converted into twins), all of which are en-suite with tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are located on the first and second floors. Whilst each room has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay including hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, modem telephones and flat screen, digital televisions, they are all unique with a style of their own.
It is difficult to choose between the elegant four-poster room,"Lady Dawe" the delightful split level “Hubbastone” with its own balcony or “Lundy” with paintings by a local artist of the island. Five of the rooms have wonderful views over the river Torridge, three of them with balconies whilst the garden view rooms overlook a tranquil scene of rabbits munching the lawn or the egrets coming home to roost on a summer’s evening.
Disabled Access
Yeoldon is an old Victorian house and does not have a lift to the bedrooms. The layout of the ground floor area also prohibits us widening the toilet doors for wheelchairs. However, our staff are trained to help guests with disabilities of any kind and will gladly assist in any way possible.
Restaurant
The Yeoldon House Restaurant is named after the famous Victorian chef Alexis Soyer - source of inspiration to proprietor-chef Brian Steele. The room has a casual elegance where you will feel comfortable in any attire. Brian takes great pride in cooking and presenting food well in a relaxing atmosphere.
You will enjoy imaginative cuisine from a daily changing menu that incorporates fresh fish, meat and vegetables from the locality.
The seasonly appropriate Chef's Collection Menu, is priced at £32.50 for three courses. Brian is always happy to discuss individual requirements with guests - not only special dietary needs, but also favourite dishes.
The menu is complemented by an international wine list including the patron's 'Proprietor's Reserve'. Coffee is served in the lounge where a digestif or glass of port may be enjoyed.
In the morning, ease into your day with a leisurely Traditional English, and read your morning paper whilst watching the sun rise over the river Torridge. The restaurant seats up to 30 people with generously sized tables and excellent napery and place settings. It is open to both residents and non-residents. Special menus can be arranged for parties, receptions and formal occasions.
